Our heartbeat, your blood circulation and your breathing
Share
Blood circulation is an essential part of your overall health and resilience. Your heart pumps blood through your circulatory system, delivering oxygen and vital nutrients to your muscles, organs, and limbs, and contributing to healthy cell growth. Even your skin benefits from improved blood flow, making it more resistant to external bacteria and infections.
The way we breathe has a major impact on our circulatory system and heart. When we breathe through our nose, we can use our lung capacity to its full potential and stimulate the alveoli – the small air sacs where oxygen is absorbed at the end of the bronchial tubes. This allows oxygen to be absorbed more efficiently, which contributes to a strong and healthy circulatory system. Breathing through the mouth, on the other hand, can cause hyperventilation, which constricts the blood vessels, puts strain on the heart and reduces the amount of available oxygen in the body.
